in the 5th year

we went through those hurdles 

convinced the unbelievers

fought what we were ourselves unsure of

yes, the children we are raising

take so much courage, energy and resources

without your warmth and values I could never do

in my impatience, intolerance, anger and pain

keep me going, help me grow, 

show me the things I have looked over

not because the ring that I have been wearing,

nor the vow that we have taken in the serene of the ceremony

but the prudence we have acquired during the test of time
